Wednesday/Thursday - no wind, and fog... :(

Friday - the sun made a welcome return, but still no wind. By late afternoon a moderate F4 had picked up, almost enough to tempt me into hiring a 6.5 to put on my 96L freewave. However I decided to conserve energy after a text was received from the student crew at Moulay....with the shocking news that it was 5.8-5.2 weather up there!!! So with a similar forecast for Saturday plans were made for a trip to Moulay.

Saturday -

There was only a very marginal F4 in Essaouira when our midday taxi arrived so Rod and I were converted into a state of drooling amazement when we arrived in Moulay to be greeted by perfect cross-shore 5.2 weather and a groundswell that was producing incredible half-mast to logo high waves in the bigger sets. I decided to play it safe to start with and went out on the bigger board, but after a couple of very well-powered runs and a ride on one chunky half-master I decided I would be way better off on the Quatro. But of course by the time I had come in, changed boards and gone out again, the wind had died. :( I tried again with the bigger board but I was really having to pump hard to get planing and the waves were dropping off and didn't return to their full size. Also the tide was getting fin-cruchingly low so that was all for today.

A shame we didn't arrive one hour earlier, because the conditions really were epic at the start.
